Star is a scenic residential city between Eagle and Middleton known for its rural beauty and mountain views. Settled in the 1860s along the Boise River, the town takes its name from a star that early settlers nailed to the door of the 1870 schoolhouse, which served as a landmark for travelers and miners passing through. Today, Star features a mix of estate properties, acreage, and suburban homes. The Boise River forms the city’s southern border, offering access for fishing, kayaking, and riverside trails, while municipal parks and open spaces provide room for recreation. River Birch Golf Course adds public golf, and Eagle Island State Park is just a few miles east. Despite ongoing development, Star maintains a quiet setting with wide-open views of farmland and foothills. Public schools are part of the West Ada and Middleton school districts. Highway 44 connects Star to Eagle, Middleton, Boise, and Canyon County.
