Middleton is a quiet Canyon County city along the Boise River known for its small-town atmosphere and open spaces. As the oldest settlement in Canyon County, with land first parceled out in 1863, Middleton was named for its location midway between Old Fort Boise and Keeney’s Ferry, where it served as a resting point for travelers. A flour mill built in 1871 brought early prosperity to the town. Middleton maintains its historic character through established neighborhoods, a historic downtown, and community events throughout the year. New residential developments are expanding its footprint while preserving its rural setting, and many properties offer larger lots, acreage, and room for horses. Highway 44 connects Middleton to Caldwell, Star, Eagle, and Boise, providing convenient access to regional employment centers in a tranquil setting. Much of the city is served by the Middleton School District.
