Emmett is a quiet agricultural town in the Payette River Valley, known as the Valley of Plenty for its long history of orchards and fruit production. Located about 30 miles northwest of Boise and serving as the Gem County seat, Emmett maintains a small-town character shaped by farmland, foothills, and the Payette River. Main Street reflects its Western heritage and serves as a focal point for local gatherings, shops, and cafes. The annual Emmett Cherry Festival, a tradition since the 1930s, celebrates the region’s agricultural roots each June. By 1940, Emmett was Idaho’s largest shipping point for sweet cherries. Scenic mountain views, seasonal fruit stands, and a relaxed pace define the area, while Black Canyon Reservoir and the Payette River offer boating, fishing, and floating nearby. Housing options range from in-town homes to properties with acreage and wide-open space. Highway 16 provides a direct route to Eagle and Boise.
