Littleton is a historic city just south of Denver and the county seat of Arapahoe County, known for its small-town charm within a major metropolitan area. Named for engineer Richard Sullivan Little, who platted the town in 1872, Littleton incorporated in 1890 and grew around agriculture, milling, and early irrigation systems along the South Platte River. Historic Downtown Littleton remains the heart of the city, offering tree-lined streets, turn-of-the-century brick buildings, and a lively mix of boutiques, coffee houses, breweries, and restaurants. Nature-focused attractions include The Hudson Gardens, the Mary Carter Greenway Trail, South Platte Park, and water recreation at nearby Chatfield State Park. RTD light rail connects Littleton with downtown Denver, and much of the city is served by Littleton Public Schools. Arts and culture thrive through the Town Hall Arts Center, the Littleton Museum, and year-round community events.
