In Conversation with Marylynn Piotrowski: Brooklyn Favorites and Market Insights

In this week’s BHS Agent Spotlight, we sat down with Marylynn Piotrowski, a new recruit to our Brooklyn Heights office who brings an interior designer’s eye and a deep appreciation for the neighborhood to her work in real estate. Her background gives her a thoughtful perspective on a home’s potential, from its natural light and layout to the improvements that can contribute to lasting value. In the conversation below, Marylynn shares why she chose BHS for the next chapter in her career and what she expects from Brooklyn’s market in the months ahead. She also offers advice for clients considering interior renovations, highlights some of her favorite neighborhood destinations, and much more.

Why did you decide to join BHS for the next chapter in your career?

BHS has always stood out as an anchor in my neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights, and the agents have become familiar faces within the community. When I researched and saw BHS also had a presence near me in Fairfield, CT, it confirmed that BHS would align with my goals.

Now that the fall market is underway, what are you expecting in Brooklyn for the rest of the year?

A big mix, really! With a new mayor, higher interest rates and big tech coming to NYC, I feel the market will be interesting from a negotiation standpoint. NYC is always evolving, and it’s currently holding its ground in terms of the biggest and best companies wanting a hold in NYC, and that means steady jobs and homes to build on.

Share a hidden secret of Brooklyn that everyone should know about and why you love it.

I do all my personal appointments in Lower Manhattan because of the convenience of the train. I am always amazed at leaving charming Brooklyn, going in one stop to majestic Wall Street and feeling the heart of NYC.

Share something few know about you.

I love being a mom, and if that means golfing, going on surf trips, scuba diving and boating to allow me to be a part of their lives, I do it.

Coming from an interior design background, what is one tip that you can pass along to your clients when looking to best invest their money in a proper interior design overhaul?

Neighborhood, light, views, and building architecture are the first steps to an investment. I look at the characteristics and layout of an interior and how the light will fall in a space (as we know, light is precious in NYC!). I advise that the biggest investment will be updating the kitchen and bathrooms if they haven’t been touched in years, and that should be the first investment for longer-term value in their home.

Favorite street in Brooklyn and why?

There is a dead-end street off Love Lane in Brooklyn Heights called College Place, and it speaks to me in its historic rows of carriage houses and newer renovations of warehouses into luxury condos. The care in preservation is noticeable, along with the modern renovations of warehouses.

Best dinner spot in Brooklyn to take a client and what are you ordering?

Noodle Pudding on Henry Street, and we are ordering the stuffed zucchini flowers, razor clams and fettuccine with a seafood ragu.

Share a photo that is meaningful to you and explain why.

This photo was taken during the COVID pandemic of my son going to school on the ferry across to South Street Seaport from Dumbo. We loved taking our morning strolls through the park, catching the ferry and going one stop to Wall Street. No subway, no traffic—just beautiful views, fresh air and an adventure every school day.
