We’ve talked about the importance of and steps to take to find your “why” in the real estate business. Now that you’ve identified why you want to succeed, it’s time to take action.
I like to start with a 90 day plan. This window is long enough to allow for real progress and short enough to be clear and focused on what matters most. One of the things that excites me most about my role at BHS Miami is meeting with agents to create these 90 day plans. Whether you’re new to the business or an established agent committed to growth, the framework is the same.
Start by choosing one thing. Not a handful of competing priorities but the single outcome that would move you meaningfully closer to your “why.” If your why is tied to family stability, maybe that means consistently adding new listings. If it’s about freedom, maybe it’s strengthening your referral base so your business works for you. If it’s about impact, maybe it’s guiding more first-time buyers into homes this quarter. Whatever it is, pick the one that feels honest.
With your goal defined, make it a SMART goal, one that is specific and measurable so you can track, week by week, whether you’re moving in the right direction. Maybe it’s closing six transactions in the next 90 days. The exact target isn’t as important as your ability to define it clearly.
Reverse engineer for results. Six closings may mean 18 serious clients, which might mean 60 to 80 qualified leads, which might translate into a certain number of conversations each week. Your numbers may be different, but to achieve your goal you cannot rely on guesswork. It becomes less emotional and more mathematical.
Create a weekly routine. Choose a day to set priorities, several days to focus on outreach and follow-up, and one day to review. On the review day ask yourself what worked and what didn’t. If necessary, adjust next week’s routine. Aim for consistency and progress.
Keep your “why” in view. Tape your why somewhere you’ll see it every day — on your mirror, car dashboard, or phone background. When you’re tired, it’s your reminder. When you’re busy, it’s your compass. Every decision gets easier when you filter it through your “why.”
Most of us overcomplicate goal setting. You don’t need a massive plan, you just need a clear why and a 90-day window to prove to yourself that you can follow through. Start small, stay consistent, and let your purpose drive your plan.
Your next 90 days can change the entire direction of your business and maybe even your life.
