A piece of Nolita history has been reimagined as a one-of-a-kind contemporary residence.
At 34 Prince Street, a landmarked Federal-style building dating to 1826 has been transformed into a boutique condominium while preserving its connection to the neighborhood’s past. Originally built across from the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, the building served as a convent and school for generations of New Yorkers. The school counted filmmaker Martin Scorsese among its alumni before closing in 2010.
Today, the building is home to just seven residences, including a spectacular 3,673-square-foot penthouse duplex listed for $11.75 million by Brown Harris Stevens’ Drew Glick, Edward “Ned” Swain and Juliana Frei.
The four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath home occupies the top two floors and offers more than 1,200 square feet of private outdoor space spread across three terraces. There is a landscaped terrace directly off the main living level, a private terrace off the primary suite and a rooftop terrace with sweeping city views, including the Empire State Building.
For Glick, the home’s appeal goes well beyond its size.
“It’s not just the amount of space,” he told Mansion Global, but the apartment’s “California-style” indoor-outdoor flow that sets it apart. The main terrace sits between the kitchen and dining area, creating a natural connection between the interior and exterior spaces and making the layout particularly well suited to entertaining and everyday living.
Inside, historic character meets contemporary design. The Great Room features exposed brick, oak floors, custom walnut built-ins and a gas fireplace, while the open kitchen includes custom Bulthaup cabinetry, a seven-foot pantry, natural stone island and integrated Gaggenau appliances.
