Spokane is the second-largest city in Washington and serves as the cultural and economic center of the Inland Northwest. Located along the Spokane River about 18 miles from the Idaho border, the city takes its name from the Spokane Tribe, whose history along the river spans thousands of years. Spokane grew rapidly with the arrival of transcontinental railroads in the late 1800s, becoming a major hub for mining, agriculture, and timber. The 1974 World’s Fair, known as Expo ’74, led to the creation of Riverfront Park, a 100-acre urban park built around the dramatic Spokane Falls. Historic districts like Browne’s Addition and landmarks such as the Davenport Hotel highlight the city’s architectural heritage. Gonzaga University, Washington State University Spokane, and Whitworth University add to the city’s academic and cultural life. Interstate 90 and Spokane International Airport connect the city to the wider region. You can explore more through Spokane real estate.
