Local Legacy, Fresh Perspective: Tristan Remkus on Joining BHS Sag Harbor

This week we spotlight Tristan Remkus, a Rising Star Agent who was previously with Serhant and has recently joined BHS’ Sag Harbor Office. A Hamptons native with family roots spanning nearly 200 years in the early 1800’s, Tristan brings both a strong social media knowledge base and a fresh business perspective. In his Spotlight interview, Tristan shares why BHS felt like the right fit, his take on today’s Hamptons market, the neighborhoods where he sees the best value, and how family traditions and local pride shape his approach to real estate.

You recently joined BHS’s Sag Harbor Office after being at Serhant. Why did you decide BHS was best for your business?

I chose BHS because of its deep roots in the Hamptons and reputation for excellence. The firm’s support, resources, and collaborative culture felt like the right fit to grow my business while providing the highest level of service to my clients.

How do you see the Hamptons market in general performing right now based on your recent client experiences?

The Hamptons market is still highly active. Buyers are selective and value-driven, but quality properties with the right amenities continue to see strong interest. On the rental side, I’m finding demand is steady, particularly for well-located homes with outdoor space and modern updates.

With four generations of family history in the Hamptons spanning nearly two centuries, what does the Hamptons mean to you?

The Hamptons is home in the deepest sense. My family has been here for nearly 200 years, so I carry a strong connection to its history, culture, and community. To me, the Hamptons is about heritage, natural beauty, and helping others create memories that last for generations.

Where is the best value in the Hamptons right now? Neighborhood, property type, area?

I see some of the best value in Springs and Northwest Woods, where buyers can still find larger properties and strong rental potential at a more accessible price point. There’s also value in homes that need some updating; they offer great upside for clients willing to put in a bit of vision and work.

Favorite place to dine in the Hamptons and why? What are you ordering?

My favorite dinner spot has to be the Corner Bar. It’s that perfect mix of classic American fare, and a true hometown feel. I also have a soft spot for Dopo La Spiaggia, where I used to work; their rigatoni bolognese is still one of my all-time favorites.

How do you leverage social media in your business? Any tips to share with your fellow agents?

I use social media to showcase listings, highlight local lifestyle, and give clients a sense of who I am beyond the transaction. My tip would be: consistency is key. Share authentic content, not just listings;  people connect with your personality as much as your professional work.

Share something few know about you.

Few people know that I’ve been clamming and fishing in the Hamptons since I was a kid. It’s one of the ways I stay connected to my family’s traditions, and it’s also why I care deeply about protecting our environment and keeping our waterways clean. A healthy marine ecosystem is essential not just for locals but for the Hamptons’ appeal as a world-class destination.

Share a photo on your camera roll that means a lot to you and share why.

One photo on my camera roll that means a lot to me is the cover of a 300-year-old history book of North Haven. It reminds me of the importance of respecting those who came before us and learning from the past, so we don’t miss the opportunities of the future.
