The Osborne, built from 1883 to 1885 and expanded in 1906, is a NYC landmark conceived by stone contractor Thomas Osborne. Designed by James Ware as a prestigious residence for wealthy New Yorkers, it’s often called a Dakota across from Carnegie Hall. Originally, each floor featured four large, richly detailed apartments with parquet floors, rare woods, plaster moldings, and tiled fireplaces. While some remain intact, about half have been subdivided into smaller units. Notable residents have included Leonard Bernstein and Bobby Short.
