Known officially as The Atelier, 33 West 67th Street is a standout Gothic-style building in the Artists’ Historic District. Like its neighbors, it features a limestone base with dark brick above, laid in Flemish bond with burned headers. The limestone base includes an ornate vestibule adorned with Gothic floral carvings, human heads, animals, and birds. The top resembles a medieval castle gate with pointed arches, panels, foliate bands, and corbels. The building has a rich artistic history, notably housing Dadaist and Surrealist Marcel Duchamp from 1915 to 1921.
